Halloween-Purrrfect Kitty

Hey everybody!   I’ve been so focused on busting out of the NICU,  I completely forgot about choosing my Halloween costume.  My cousins are known for having the best ideas like a Spider Princess and a Bat Princess.  They are so smart like that, and Aunt Jenni is very creative.  I stayed up all night fretting over my costume but all the good ideas I came up with needed my Daddy’s participation.  He is working far away so those ideas will have to wait until next year.  I finally threw my hands in the air and said  “Mommy, you’ve gotta come up with something for me.”

So Mommy said “Anna Catherine you are so perfect, I have a Purrrrfect Kitty costume just for you.  Its black and orange, we can paint your nose like a kitty and give you kitty whiskers and a big orange bow”.  But the real big surprise was when the nurses took me Trick or Treat’n around the NICU riding in a big red wagon.  The whole operation was under the guise of “testing my portable equipment” but it was really all about having fun and visiting all my NICU friends that I’ll miss dearly once I’m discharged.

Zooming around in a speedy red wagon had me scared at first.  But I found my courage with the help of my Wubbanub friend.  After a while I was having a great time looking around and seeing how tall everyone was.  Adults are funny looking with their big people pants.

I had such a wonderful time seeing all my NICU friends.  Thanks so much to everyone who helped make this day special.

Here are some photos of my Halloween Trick or Treat adventure:

Before you know it I’ll be bigger and  real good at picking out Halloween costumes.  I’ll probably be so good at it that I’ll even pick out costumes for Mommy and Daddy next year.  Email my mommy and me at ThibodeauxMom@live.com and tell us about your Halloween costume.  When I wake up from my nap she will read your messages to me.

Stay cute America!

Miss USA

Last week we found out that the Miss USA team wanted to pay me a visit.  All the pretty contestants are in Baton Rouge for the big Miss USA pageant this week.  The girls wanted to swing by and  talk to us, take some photos, videos, and learn about the great team working at Woman’s hospital.

Mommy asked the doctor and the doctor said:  “Anna Catherine you are doing so good.  Your friends from Miss USA can come visit as long as they wash their hands real good and take their temperature.”

Gigi, Mommy, and I were real excited.   Gigi made me a pretty pink sash that read “Miss NICU”.  The nurses hung pretty letters over my crib that spelled my name.

Sleepy Miss NICU

I was in the middle of a good nap when all my friends from Miss USA came to see me.  I could hardly open my eyes.  At best I could only open one eye at a time.  For the most part I slept during all of this excitement.  But thirty minutes after all the excitement was over I was wide awake and ready to play.  Go figure.

The girls talked to Mommy for a long time asking all kind of questions about me.  They were so nice and friendly. They signed my blanket with sweet messages and gave me a beautiful tiara.

We took many photos; Woman’s Hospital put one of me and the Miss USA contestants their Facebook page.

Thank you Woman’s Hospital and Miss USA, this was a wonderful experience.

Big thanks to Nurse Shannon for buying me some good bunny ears.  I couldn’t give my inaugural Easter address without a proper set of bunny ears.  Also big thanks to Nurse Jayna for helping me sit up for my my photo shoot.  I love my nurses!

Here is a game for all my fans out there, guess if I was laughing or fussing during this photo shoot?  The photos below may help give you a clue.  Don’t worry, daddy has the most incriminating photos behind lock and key.

Love ya,

Anna Bunny

Easter Baskets For Our Nurses

Anna Catherine’s nurses are outstanding; our prayers were answered the day each chose to be Anna Catherine’s primary nurse.  They are so thoughtful and sweet, so knowledgeable and attentive.  They make our bad days bearable and make our good days even better.

Before Brian left for Afghanistan we began a project to make each primary nurse an Easter basket.  We shopped for Easter basket essentials, chocolate bunnies, chocolate eggs, plastic eggs, jelly beans, marshmallow peeps, etc.  I bought nice baskets and bows to decorate them.  Over the months new primary nurses were added, so our plans had to adjust and more supplies purchased.

In the end I think each basket came out pretty nice.  They are just a thoughtful gesture of thanks for the wonderful ladies who take care of my sweet baby day in and day out.  Brian and I are so very thankful for their around the clock support and friendship.

Time To See What I Can Do

My Respiratory Therapist, Stephanie, tells me this is my song: “Let it Go”, from the movie “Frozen”.

The line in the song: “Time to see what I can do… to test the limits and break through” sums up where I am at in life.  Knocking down roadblocks and overcoming obstacles.  Hey doc just give me a milestone and I’ll achieve it.
